Spring is here 2021

Spring is here:

• Gif made of baby Carol edited and collaged.

• From finding out that my Nan Carol Ann was adopted it has made my practice change its dynamic. I have always looked at my family album to understand self-idenity and family identity. I used to look at the similarities in facial structures to understand where I come from for example this old work that I created on the BA Fine art.

• Even though Carol is adopted it hasn't made me look at my family in a different dynamic even though some of them aren't related to me by blood they do sill inform some of my identity today.

• Spring is here will be a projected piece that will be played on a loop in silence. The reason for the name of the piece is that I feel like there is a new start to my practice, a new sense of direction.

• From displaying the piece in Plymouth it will give the work more meaning as i've found out that my nan was born there. She was given up for adoption because Carol's mother was a teenager.

From reading John Berger’s book about looking he quote's ‘Yet, unlike memory, photographs do not in themselves preserve meaning. They offer appearances – with all the credibility and gravity we normally lend to appearances- prised away from their meaning. Meaning in the result of understanding functions. “And functioning takes place in time and must be explained in time. Only that which narrates can make us understand.” Photographs preserve instant appearances. (Berger,2013,p.55)

As I don’t know the function of Carol's life properly I wish to display the image to let it speak for itself. The image is also altered to keep Carol's identity private.
